324 Die, 1,706 Injured In Road Accidents In Kogi In 12 Months – FRSC
According to data released by the Federal Traffic Safety Corps (FRSC), road accidents in Kogi claimed the lives of 324 people in 2022 while injuring 1,706 more people to varying degrees.
The disclosure was made to reporters in Lokoja on Thursday by Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, the Kogi FRSC Sector Commander.
Given the number of innocent, patriotic individuals’ lives lost in these crashes, Dawulung called them as “extremely tragic” and “saddening.”
He added that the corps had counted 458 road crashes in Kogi overall between January and December 2022.
5 161 people were engaged in the total of 458 motor accidents, which resulted in 324 fatalities and 1,706 injuries.
“The casualty and accident rate within that year are extremely high and unacceptable to us as a corps, but that is the reality we are currently facing.
“Considering the scope of the awareness-raising and enlightenment initiatives we ran throughout the period under evaluation, we are not pleased with the report’s findings.
Naturally, we must place the blame for this on the carelessness of the drivers, some of whom persistently disobeyed traffic laws and restrictions to safety, he said.
The sector commander urged drivers to always check their cars’ roadworthiness before setting out on a trip and exercise caution while driving on the highways.
Specifically in trucks and other vehicles designed to transport only commodities, he stated, “this year 2023, my Command will continue carrying out enforcements and enlightenment programs against speed, overloading, and mixed loading of goods and passengers.”
Additionally, Dawulung recommended motorists to maintain a high level of discipline and rigorously abide by traffic laws in order to prevent such obscene situations.
