5G Scam: Do Not Provide OTP Sent To You, EFCC Warns Nigerians

Nigerians have been warned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to watch out for con artists who contact and send messages to people requesting them to assist them update their SIM cards from 4G to 5G.

In a brief statement, the anti-corruption agency explained that citizens who choose to have their mobile sim card “upgraded to 5G” by the con artists would receive an OTP, and that these people would then be asked to provide the code with which the con artists would ultimately defraud the innocent citizens.

The Commission advised, “PLEASE, DO NOT give the OTP sent to you.”

They will transfer all the funds in your bank account to their own account if you reveal the OTP number they send you.

The EFCC asked Nigerians to take care not to cooperate with strangers who offer to assist them in switching from 4G to 5G and to report anyone who requests an OTP.
