Kwara Poly Saga: ASKOMP Warns Police Chief Against Silencing Media
The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) has issued a stern warning to the state’s Police Commissioner, CP Olaiya, against using his position to silence the press in favor of a personal friend.
Their statement, released on Tuesday, condemns the attempted detention of two journalists from Informant247, Adiza-Jaji Azeez and Salihu Ayatullahi, despite a court order protecting their fundamental rights.
ASKOMP acknowledges the professionalism shown by a previous Police Commissioner and urges CP Olaiya to avoid damaging his reputation by attempting to obstruct an ongoing investigation at Kwara State Polytechnic.
The association emphasizes that the police, as law enforcers, should uphold the law and allow legal disputes to be resolved in court, rather than resorting to silencing the media.
