Alhaji Abdulganiyu Cook-Olododo, the National Assembly representative for the federal constituencies of Ilorin East and Ilorin South, empowered at least 730 of his people on Saturday.

The mega empowerment, the 15th of its sort, was held in the Lower Niger River Basin, according to Newscrescent Media, and it was well attended by state leaders.

Speaking at the event, the lawmaker—who rode into the arena—reminded his constituents that, when he canvassed the area in 2019 before the elections, he discovered that there were many bodied men and women who, if given the opportunity, could improve their own lives and have a positive impact on society.

He claimed that this inspired him to prioritize the education and empowerment of his constituents, and so far, he has kept his word by empowering thousands of them.

The lawmaker, who is running for re-election to the house on the Social Democratic Party (SDP) platform, told the crowd that he made the decision to listen to his constituents because he understands that politics is local and that the upcoming general elections in 2023 will center on people and what they have accomplished for the community.

The legislator emphasized that the people must be gainfully involved in order to make appropriate contributions to the growth, noting that his constituency would be a better place if his predecessors had empowered the people expansion and improvement of the constituency.

He added that the capacity-building and empowerment programs he has started are a result of his intense desire to help as many people in his area escape poverty as possible.

Women and young people were also cited by Alhaji Abdulganiyu Cook-Olododo as crucial members of society. We feel that if a woman is empowered, a generation is empowered, and if a youngster is empowered, our future as a people is secured jointly, in his words.

He bemoaned the high unemployment rate in society, calling it regretful and unacceptable in light of the enormous resources that God has provided the nation with.

The unstable economic position in our nation has led to a variety of social vices in our culture (including theft, banditry and terrorism). Therefore, there is an urgent need to address this problem by giving our people the chance to be gainfully employed, earn a living salary or income, and feel proud of being a Nigerian once more, he said.

He thus urged the recipients to keep using the items well, promising them that N20,000 would be provided to each of them as a token to help them get the supplies home.

“Never consider selling them (the empowerment package), as they are your ticket to economic independence and improved livelihood,” he admonished them forcefully.

You know I don’t say things I can’t do, and I always do what I say. I have enabled at least three physical projects in each of the 23 wards in Ilorin East and Ilorin South local government to fulfill our campaign commitments. If you give me more chances to help you, I will help you more, I can assure you, he said.

Additionally, Newscrescent media gather that deep freezers, generators, industrial sewing machines, grinding machines, computers with accessories, washing machines, hairdressing supplies, electric wheelchairs, and other products were distributed at the event.
