CAN denies receiving N2b bribe from Peter Obi
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Sunday refuted a fictitious letter that is currently making the rounds on social media and asserting that Peter Obi, presidential candidate for the Labour Party, offered churches N2 billion to encourage support for him.
In a statement, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh called the letter absurd and an unsuccessful attempt to involve the leading Christian organization in politics for the year 2023.
According to Okoh, CAN retains its apolitical stance and won’t support or endorse any particular candidate in the next elections.
Part of the statement reads, “The national leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has been alerted to a purported letter currently circulating on social media, alleging that Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, gave a certain amount of N2 billion to Churches covered by CAN.
“I utilize this platform to unequivocally announce that the purported letter of petition addressed to my office and purportedly signed by one Pastor Frank Onwumere is irrational and is best characterized as an unsuccessful attempt to involve the leading Christian organization in politics in 2023.
