All Polytechnic institutions nationwide have been ordered to close in preparation for the 2023 elections by the federal government.

Days prior, universities received a similar instruction.

A circular from the Ministry of Education instructed the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to inform the rectors and provosts of polytechnics of the instruction.

The letter, dated February 10th 2023, was signed by Folorunsho, I.O. for Malam Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education.

“In view of concerns expressed on the security of staff, students, and property of our respective Institutions, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has, following extensive consultations with the relevant security agencies, directed that all Polytechnics be closed and academic activities be suspended between Wednesday, February 22, and Tuesday, March 14, 2023,” the letter states.

The Minister asked the head of the NBTE to tell every institution under his regulatory authority of the aforementioned information, stating that “it is vital to inform them, so that suitable modifications can be made in their academic calendar to accommodate this three-week loss.”
