The results of Saturday’s governorship election have been certified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the current governor of Adamawa State, declared the victor.

In a hotly contested race, Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party defeated Senator Binani of the All Progressives Congress.

Nevertheless, the manual result sheet from the Fufore Local Government Area was rejected by Prof. Muhammed Mele of the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, who is the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for Adamawa.

Before making a final declaration, Prof. Mele took results from INEC’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

While the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 21,721 votes and the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 26,329 votes, the INEC’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV) revealed that the APC received 24,777 votes and the PDP received 20, 777.

However, the results announced by the local government returning officer were disregarded by the collation officials, who preferred the IReV results as the true ones. They claim that the results displayed on the IREV portal and those announced by the Fufore LGA returning officer were incompatible.
