The 2023 Federation Cup was won by Bendel Insurance on Wednesday night in Asaba at the Stephen Keshi Stadium after a 1-0 victory over Rangers with 10 men on the field.

Late in the first half, Imade Osehenkhoe converted a penalty kick for the game-winning goal.

The victory marked the fourth Federation Cup triumph and the first in 43 years for the Benin Arsenal.

In the 16th minute, Insurance created the game’s first significant opportunity, but Deputy Echeta’s deflected shot missed the mark.

Rangers responded eight minutes later with a chance of their own, but Amas Obasogie made a good save to force a corner.

Both teams were trying to score the first goal, and six minutes before halftime, Rangers striker Godwin Obaje was booked for a harsh tackle on Julius Emiloju.

Chinerwm Ugbwueze handled the ball inside the box late in the first half, and Bendel Insurance was given a penalty.

Ugbwueze was also expelled for the intentional behavior. He was previously cited for making a weak challenge on an adversary.

Osarenkhoe calmly scored, misfiring on Rangers goalkeeper Detan Ogundare.

Rangers attempted the first goal after the interval despite having 10 players on the field.

In the 51st minute, Insurance head coach Monday Odigie made two substitutes because he was not happy with his team’s advantage.
