A large lockdown rally for Bola Tinubu and Kashima Shettima, the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard bearer, was interrupted by police in Niger state.

The party’s Umar Bago and Yakubu Garba candidates for governor of the state are also anticipated to get support at the gathering, according to The Nation.

The event was organized by Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, national coordinator of Project 774 for Tinubu/Shettima 2023 and the deputy chief whip of the Senate.

Police officers sealed and blocked the event’s location, New Bussa Township Stadium in the state’s Borgu local government district.

It was discovered that the stadium had been repaired and decorated in anticipation of the event, which was set to take place on Tuesday, January 31, at 11am.

Two pickup trucks filled with heavily armed mobile police officers were stationed outside the stadium’s entrance, while normal police officers were locking the gate to prevent APC supporters from entering the building.

Police requested the media to leave the stadium after they arrived at about 9am.

On Monday, January 30, the New Bussa Stadium was officially opened. According to some of the officers who spoke on the record under the condition of anonymity, the order to block it came from a higher, unnamed authority.
