Buhari Says Tinubu was Effective as Lagos Governor

At a rally Sunday in Sokoto State, President Muhammadu Buhari pleaded with attendees to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu, in order to build on democratic progress. Buhari claimed that Tinubu was the best candidate to build on his accomplishments while making the pitch at the Giginya Stadium, site of the APC presidential campaign event.

The president cited Tinubu’s two terms of effective leadership of Lagos, the nation’s former capital, as his greatest strength. He also cited Tinubu’s dedication to democracy and his position as a senator at the center of things. He claimed that Tinubu, the APC candidate who is backed by Kashim Shettima as his running mate, will build on the achievements of his administration, and that this is his message to Nigerians. However, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to Senator Abdulahi Adamu, National Chairman of the APC, who also spoke at the gathering, was already dead and buried in Sokoto State.

However, said that Sokoto State had already laid to rest the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, however, pleaded with the people to vote for him if they desired a revival of the agricultural sector, opening of borders, security of lives and property, and economic development, which he claimed would be the main policy thrusts of his government if elected, yesterday at a rally in Kano.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) naira redesign policy prevented the deployment of bullion vans on election day, and Atiku has charged Tinubu of inciting his advisers to criticize Buhari as a result. This comes as the PDP has further accused the APC of pushing to keep outdated naira notes in circulation solely so that it could use them to bribe voters during elections. Similar to this, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi advised his supporters to accept donations from other parties’ moneybags in exchange for their support for him.

Molly Phee, the US assistant secretary of state for African affairs, has stated that the US does not have a preferred candidate for the February 25 presidential election and is just interested in a credible, free, and fair process. Buhari has already expressed his congratulations to Comrade Joe Ajaero on becoming the new leader of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

However, Tinubu, who spoke earlier at the Sokoto rally, stated that if given the chance to lead the country, he would address the issue of kidnapping, the out-of-school children in the state, increase agricultural productivity, and provide strong markets for their farm products. Senator Aliyu Magartakada Wamakko, a former governor of Sokoto State, declared that the state was still an APC state and predicted that the party would win handily in the elections. He added that the APC in the state would retrieve its stolen mandate and claimed that more than 70% of Sokoto residents were APC members. Senator Atiku Bagudu, the governor of Kebbi and the chairman of the Progressive Governor’s Forum, stated that all APC governors were devoted to the party’s success in their individual states.
