The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja’s business owners said they are eager to hear from President Muhammadu Buhari and/or the Central Bank over the legality of old Naira notes.

The business owners responded to the Supreme Court’s decision that the old N500 and N1000 notes were still valid until December 31.

Yet, they claimed it was dangerous to accept the notes prior to direction from the CBN or the Presidency.

They claimed that the uproar that followed a similar Supreme Court ruling that was disregarded led to their decision.

Abubakar Umar, a cab driver, expressed his optimism that Buhari or CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele will address the issue of whether or not they should proceed with accepting those old notes within the next week.

He stated that he would insist that consumers only pay him with brand-new N500 or N1000 notes until such an instruction was issued.

A minor trader known only as Madam Uloma told NAN that she won’t accept the old bills and that she won’t collect them until she hears directly from the source.

Uloma claimed she would not want to experience the anxiety she did when the CBN deemed the notes illegal.

Mr. Fred Oyibo, a resident, expressed his excitement when the Supreme Court’s ruling authorizing the usage of the old notes was made.

Oyibo, however, expressed disappointment that he was unable to utilize his old notes and added that, in spite of the verdict, shop owners are still refusing to accept them.
