Tinubu visits Oba Akiolu in Lagos, describes victory as World Cup

After winning the presidential election last Saturday, Bola Tinubu stormed Lagos for the first time on Sunday and reaffirmed his commitment to keeping Nigerians happy.

Among those who greeted Tinubu upon his arrival at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja’s Presidential wing were Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, and other prominent figures in Lagos.

Soon after landing, he and his entourage went to the Iga-Iduganran Palace to visit the Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu. They were joined by some other traditional leaders in the state and White Cap chiefs.

In his speech to the little throng gathered inside the palace, Tinubu compared the primary and election processes he through to “A World Cup competition” and thanked God and the electorate for ensuring his success.

“This certificate I brought home is our own World Cup,” he declared.

“My message is one of appreciation, and from now on, I will work tirelessly for Nigeria and will not let the Nigerian people down,” he said.

He specifically thanked Oba Akiolu and the state’s traditional leaders for their prayers and support in Yoruba.

On Saturday, March 11, 2023, Tinubu is anticipated to meet with APC chieftains and stakeholders to discuss the prospects for APC candidates in the governorship and house of assembly elections.

However, In his remarks, Akiolu described the president-elect as a special breed “who is destined for leadership at the very top.

Asiwaju, Lagos won’t forget you because you gave Lagos your very best effort and provided exceptional service.

“I am aware that you have adversaries, just as all of our forebears and prophets did.

Some people are even atheists, but I know that our ancestors will fight for you, God will give you the victory, and Nigeria will be magnificent under your rule.

Oba Saheed Elegushi, the Elegushi of Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom, and Oba Omogbolahan Lawal, the Oniru of Iruland, were among the other traditional leaders present at the palace.

Former Deputy Governor Femi Pedro, former Lagos Commissioner for the Environment Muiz Banire, and the state’s All Progressives Congress Women Leader Jumoke Okoya-Thomas were also present at the palace.
