CBN, Bill Gates to partner on financial inclusion
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have agreed to collaborate on financial inclusion.
This was the result of recent strategic sessions held between BMGF and CBN management.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, the acting governor of the CBN, reaffirmed the commitment of the top bank to consistently collaborate with BMGF and other development partners to investigate cutting-edge methods for promoting access to financing.
Despite significant advancements in several areas of financial inclusion, Shonubi, who was joined by the Deputy Governor of the Financial System Stability (FSS), Mrs. Aisha Ahmad, stated that some obstacles still stood in the way of Nigeria reaching the targeted level of financial inclusion.
He urged more collaboration between the Bank and the BMGF.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s co-chair, Mr. Bill Gates, stated in his speech that the foundation would continue to work with Nigeria on health, agriculture, and financial services.
Gates expressed delight that his organization’s assistance was spurring progress in Nigeria.
He expressed optimism that the country would experience improved results given the new economic and monetary policies currently in place in Nigeria while acknowledging that there were still difficulties and gaps.
