Godwin Emefiele orders commercial banks to give Nigerians access to N200 notes
Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has pleaded for patience from Nigerians as he meets with 15 bank executives on Thursday, February 16, 2023.
Emefiele instructed the bank executives to provide the old 200 naira notes during the meeting.
He said this after witnessing a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Special Ad Hoc Committee on Naira Redesign Policy, Cashless Policy, and Currency Swap in the House of Representatives.
The CBN Governor acknowledged that the strategy has caused difficulty and some temporary discomfort, but he pledged that the central bank will keep working to lessen the suffering of Nigerians as a result of the cash shortage.
