Tinubu’s opponents own banks, can access hundreds of millions – El-Rufai

Before the upcoming elections, opponents of All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, according to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, are well-funded.
The governor spoke to Kaduna residents on Thursday despite a shortage of new naira notes following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) redesign of the N200, N500, and N1000 notes.
El-Rufai claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari was persuaded by the CBN and other “disgruntled” government officials that it is acceptable for the people to lose control of their hard-earned money.
The governor bemoaned how small and medium-sized enterprises are severely restricted in their access to cash, thereby putting a stop to trade and exchange.
El-Rufai acknowledged that attempts to persuade the Buhari administration to alter the policy’s application in order to avert unexpected consequences had failed.
APC supporter claimed that people identified by the President as the true targets of the currency makeover had not been impacted in any way.
In fact, two of the front-runners for president and one of the rival parties’ running mates own or have preferred access to some of the licensed banks.
These politicians have access to hundreds of millions of these new notes as a result, as well as through various covert agreements, he pointed out.
El-Rufai informed the populace that in all of these, traders, businesspeople, students, and other individuals have been waiting in line for days to withdraw a little amount of money in order to purchase food and other necessities.
Politicians who either control banks or have special access to funds were criticized by the previous FCT Minister for “recklessly endorsing a program that is being poorly implemented.”
El-Rufai continued by stating that a presidential contender spoke out against the APC governors’ and the Nigeria Governors Forum’s (NGF) suggestion to extend the implementation schedule.
