Shena, age 5, has been a patient at the hospital since September. When her mother speaks her name, her eyes move slowly, but aside from that, she is mostly motionless.

Shena’s mother, Desi Permata Sari, claims that when she became unwell with a fever, difficulties began to arise. She brought her daughter to the emergency room of a hospital in Jakarta out of concern. They had blood work done by doctors, who also gave them paracetamol syrup to go home.

“I gave her the medication for two days, and after that she vomited and said she was unable to urinate. She might be dehydrated, I first thought,” Desi said.

She was a brilliant, healthy young lady. All of this happened out of the blue due to medication. I’m heartbroken.

The pediatric intensive care unit received Shena as a patient. She was a joyful, talkative child, who enjoyed reading and swimming and had even learned to recite the Quran by the time she was four years old, according to her mother.

She is currently battling for her life.

She had significant internal bleeding before. She was bleeding from her mouth and nose while suffering convulsions, and her scalp was covered in sores. She spent one and a half months unconscious. She was only skin and bone and had been bleeding incessantly for three weeks, Desi claimed.
