Dr. Ado Ibrahim, the supreme traditional ruler and Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, has come under fire from the Kogi State government for declining to extend a warm greeting to President Muhammadu Buhari during his visit to the state.

Top government officials and leading traditional leaders received Buhari, who was in the state on December 29, 2022, to inaugurate some projects, including the Ohinoyi Palace, which Governor Yahaya Bello had built. However, the vice president of the Kogi Council of Chiefs was not present.

Ado Ibrahim was accused of displaying a premeditated attitude and acting in a way that could “bring Kogi State and Ebiraland in particular to grave discredit” in a letter to the king written by Enimola Eniola, the director of chieftaincy affairs.

The letter claims that he declined to see the president in person at the agreed-upon location with Governor Bello.

“It has been noted with extreme worry that you have demonstrated a determined attitude and actions capable of seriously discrediting Kogi State and Ebira Land in particular,” the letter stated. These behaviors are utterly inappropriate for the esteemed royal parent of your stature.

“In particular, you were informed via numerous forums of the illustrious visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Okene on December 29, 2022, to dedicate landmark projects completed by our beloved Governor Yahaya Bello. You blatantly declined to appear and greet the president at the appointed location that was duly authorized by the state’s executive governor, showing a blatant disdain for the persons and high offices of the President and the Governor.

Ibrahim has previously voiced his support for Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the PDP’s senatorial candidate for Kogi Central, in the face of criticism from Governor Bello and the APC.
