A trailer with failed brakes allegedly rammed into two Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officers in Kwara State, killing one of them and badly injuring the other.

It was learned that the incident, which took place at the Pasa Bridge in Eyenkorin, about 200 meters from the NAF base, led to hostility between locals and members of the air force.

Furthermore, the event was caused by a brake failure, according to Shola Muse, the Kwara State secretary of the community policing advisory group.

Because of the rising tension, he told Newscresent, “I have ordered the police command to come to the site to prevent any breakdown of law and order.”

When our reporter arrived on the location on Tuesday, there were stern-looking NAF officers and a patrol car with the license plate AF 496 C01.

According to a witness who only went by the name Alhaji Pasa, “The officers were on duty when the truck crushed two of them and badly injured one as it was nearing the air force checkpoint after its break failed.

After the event, the truck’s driver made an attempt to flee but was shot in the legs by the police. The residents had requested that the checkpoint be moved, but to no effect.

Okasanmi Ajayi, the police public relations officer, and Frederick Ade Ogidan, the commandant of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), both in Kwara State, confirmed that they were aware of the occurrence when contacted.

Ogidan stated, “I also heard about it, but I don’t have the details; perhaps the casualties were evacuated before my troops arrived.

According to Okasanmi, “I learned that some (air force) officers were involved in an accident but they (air force) did not convey the facts to me,” he said in a statement to Daily Trust.

But when contacted, Mathew Adeniyi, the NAF’s Ilorin Civil/Military Relations Officer, asked our correspondent over the phone, “Who gave you that information? I’m currently on vacation, so I’ll have to go to the corporate office to find out. I apologize for it.
