Lawan wins Yobe North Senatorial District election

The election for the Yobe North Senatorial District was won by Sen. Ahmed Lawan of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lawan received 91,318 votes, according to the results announced in Gashua on Monday by the Returning Officer, Prof. Omolala Aduoju of Federal University, Gashua.

“Alhaji Ahmed Lawan of the SPC is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” she said. “He has satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest votes.

Sheriff Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to her, finished as Lawan’s closest rival in second place with 22,849 votes, while Alhaji Garba Umar of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) received 7,210 votes.

Aduoju claimed that despite not fielding a candidate in the election, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) received three votes.

“A total of 126,677 votes were cast in the election, of which 122,136 were legitimate and 4,541 were rejected,” she stated.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the district is made up of the local governments of Machina, Nguru, Bade, Karasuwa, Jakusko, and Yusufari.
