LeBron James becomes NBA’s all-time leading scorer

LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on Tuesday to take the title of NBA’s all-time leading scorer. He did so with a fadeaway jumpshot in the final seconds of a home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

When the ball swished through the net, “King James,” who needed 36 points to surpass Abdul-38,387-point Jabbar’s record, sent the sold-out crowd into a frenzy. He raised his arms in celebration as his teammates hugged him.

Abdul-Jabbar, a legendary player with the Los Angeles Lakers who, on April 5, 1984, defeated Wilt Chamberlain to win the title with his trademark skyhook, watched Tuesday’s game from courtside and rose to cheer James when the record was broken.

To honor the accomplishment and give James a chance to address the fans, play was halted.

James remarked, “I just want to thank the Laker supporters, you guys are one of a kind.

“It’s unbelievable and really humbling to be able to be in Kareem’s company, a legend in his own right. Please give “The Captain” a standing ovation.”

Inside the arena, students from his “I Promise School” and U.S. President Joe Biden paid tribute, and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver told Reuters it was a “historic moment.”

Basketball enthusiasts as well as members of the general public pay attention to these kinds of important milestones, according to Silver.

LeBron’s quest of the scoring record is no exception, and this accomplishment will be known to billions of people.

It has been a matter of when, not if, James would break the record the whole season. Some speculated that it may happen during Thursday’s domestic matchup with Milwaukee, but James had other plans.

James appeared to be attending a funeral when he arrived at the arena wearing a jet black suit, a black shirt, and dark shades.

He buried Abdul-record Jabbar’s few hours later.
