Ministerial nominees: Shehu Sani urges senators not to confirm El-Rufai

Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has pleaded with senators in the 10th Assembly not to confirm Malam Nasir El-Rufai as Minister.


The former congressman expressed surprise that El-Rufai’s name appeared on the list as a ministerial contender despite his evident religious affiliation, which is harmful to the country’s unity, in a statement he released on Sunday and gave to journalists.

For the sake of the nation’s future, he urged the three senators from Kaduna State to rise in honor and oppose the former governor’s confirmation and approval.

Senator Abubakar Sodangi’s committee, which barred El-Rufai from holding public office, was respected, Senator Sani reminded the Senate.

The sentence in the statement that forbade him from holding public office read: “The Senate should uphold and respect the 2008 Senator Sodangi Committee.

They must absolutely and unequivocally oppose Elrufai’s nomination, in particular the three senators from Kaduna State.

The people of Kaduna State, who have suffered under his eight years of tyranny and persecution, would be greatly wronged and betrayed by remaining silent.

“Nigerian Senators ought to protect the nation from the threat and risk posed by harboring, nurturing, and installing such a person in the palace of power.

An individual who has a history of radicalism, religious intolerance, and disregard for the rule of law is not deserving of the legislative gavel of approval. He is unfit to serve as a minister.

“Any opposition senator who supports El-Rufai has abandoned the moral conscience of the nation’s citizens; any senator from the ruling party who supports El-Rufai has introduced a destructive force into Tinubu’s administration.

“The Tinubu administration is attempting suicide by confirming Elrufai as a minister.”

On Monday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu forwarded 28 ministry nominees to the Senate, which is about to begin examining and confirming them.
