NDLEA arrests four with 298 bags of Indian hemp
According to the Kaduna State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, four individuals were taken into custody together with 298 bags of Indian hemp.
At a news conference on Wednesday in Kaduna, Mr. Ibrahim Braji, the state commander of the NDLEA, announced this.
According to Braji, the suspects were detained on the evening of January 3 at the Tasu Mahuta neighborhood on Refinery Road in the state’s Chikun Local Government Area.
The four suspects, according to him, were two men and two women.
He claims that the 3,576kg of Indian hemp is contained in the bags.
However, he claimed that the investigators were still working to identify additional individuals in order to make arrests and bring charges against them.
He added that in order to stop the flow of drugs into and out of the state, the command has increased the size of its operational structure.
He said that in addition to Kaduna North and Kaduna South area commands, the new area commands also covered the Makarfi and Soba Local Government Areas.
The state commander claimed that because of the connections to other areas with numerous states, patrol troops had been sent to the newly constituted area commands in the local government areas of Samaru, Zaria, and Sanga.
Braji added that the command would launch an informational campaign to educate young people about the risks of drug misuse and its detrimental effects on society as the general election in 2023 drew near.
Schools, religious organizations, traditional institutions, and sensitive locations would all receive sensitization, he said.
Youths shouldn’t allow politicians to use them as weapons of social ruin, the NDLEA commander stressed.
