By the general observations, you will agree with me that the Youth nowadays engages vehemently on every social media outlets these days more than before, this may be caused by different goals and objectives for basking online at all costs. These Social Media Outlets have been using diversely by individual capacity, either to mar or to mend one’s life, but the obnoxious products of it, are ravaging through its diversification from the standard.
The Negative Influence of Social Media has registered the higher percentage than the positive influence on our societies and individual lives. It’s appalling to witness many havocs that the social media influencers, fake news peddlers, online content creators, and trolling audiences have recorded on the lives of people mentally, physically, emotionally, politically, and socially. All these menaces occur through the defaulted regulating bodies of the Media control by not implementing a good retribution.
Cyberbullying is tantamount to mental assassination
Nigeria as a case study, it has become a circumvention for Nigerian Youth to engross in bullying and trolling malicious dragging to other fellow Nigerians, without pondering on the mental effects which have led many people to depression and weariness. The recent sleazy attack on dignitaries, artists, and footballers are so uncalled for. Perhaps, it could only annihilate the talents, passions, and zealousness on their various chosen professions, not for progressive enhancement. These people are meant to be encouraged and enticed by our supports and good appellations towards them, instead of being admonished and chastised for their inabilities, flaws, and errors.
Cyberbullying has been causing many promising and endowed Nigerian Youths a huge hypertension, socked, agony, future pessimistic, and untimely Death. Especially, Twitter and Instagram have been the greatest tools for absurd engagement. It’s crystal clear that many Nigerians are blessed with the vile writing, bad cruise experts, professional banter, and putrid comments while engaging on social media outlets. But, in the same vein, a considerable justification should be rendered to individuals’ personalities to absolve these prominent people and/or ourselves from the eternal depression.
For instance, In the just concluded AFCON2023, where Nigeria’s Team emerged as second position in the tournament, it was a great record for the country though, despite the expectation of Nigerian citizens were not meet up. Notwithstanding, the sincere accolades must be bestowed on every players rrespective. Imagine, a recent viral of Cyberbullying that descended on Alex Iwobi’s performance, during and post-tournament was portrayed the sense of inhuman of some people who found solace in such derogatory criticism that can cause detriment to his life.
With all resilient efforts and utmost commitment of every single player on the pitch including Alex Iwobi, and that was later complimented with such an ungodly gestures from the patriotic fans and hatred people. The spirit of sport is understandable to everyone, especially football to be precised, which is so evolving in emotion and uncontrollable affection towards a particular team or player. Nonetheless, “sometimes the extravagance of something will later result in abysmal”. So, the prognosis and opprobrium of some people (who claimed to be more painful than others) on Iwobi were underwhelmed. The diplomatic comments and warm reinforcement should have been beckoned on them accordingly.
However, I urge my fellow Nigerians to negate any form of mischievous Media bombshell and Cyberbullying which could not only lead to depression for the victim but also cause an Untimely death. We are blessed with different powers of exploitation and we also revolve around in the media exploration, on this note, we can make use of positive comments and reactions to mpact on individuals’ lives.
