Oyo commissioner for sports declares support for Nigeria Deaf Eagles

Wasilat Adefemi, Oyo State’s Commissioner of Youth and Sports, has made a declaration on behalf of the Nigeria Deaf Eagles athletes from the State.

In the history of Oyo State, Wasilat is the first female commissioner for youth and sports.

As demonstrated by Wasilat during the just finished “World Deaf Football Championship,” which took place in Malaysia from September 23 to October 7, 2023.

Hon. Oyedeji Olusegun Abayomi, the Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation’s Southwest Zonal Representative, led the meeting.

Abayomi made a request that the State serve as the site of the Seyi Makinde Cup 2024, the National Deaf Football Championship’s sixth edition.

He continued by saying that rivalry would enable Deaf football teams to play against one another as a sign of respect, encourage harmony and healthy rivalry, and choose deserving players who would be called up to the national squad.

As a mark of respect for our governor, he stated, “The Nigeria Deaf Football Association wants Oyo State to host the 6th Edition of her National Deaf Football Championship, tagged “Seyi Makinde Cup 2024.” The event is typically used to promote peace, healthy competition, and the selection of talented players who will be called up to the national team.

We think there is still room for more talented players to be chosen from the State and other visiting teams. Therefore, you might want to authorize the Association to submit a request with a detailed budget for the hosting and sponsorship of the Championship under your supervision, and then use your honorable office to approve the most deserving governor who is a disability-friendly national leader. This way, the Association’s request can be included in your ministry’s budget for 2024.”
