Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo joins Saudi Arabia club Al Nassr
The Riyadh-based team, Al Nassr, has announced that football star Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the organization.
After giving an angry television interview in which he claimed to feel betrayed by the team and that he did not respect their Dutch boss Erik ten Hag, the Portuguese attacker left Manchester United last month.
On Saturday, Al Nassr shared a photo of Ronaldo holding up the team’s jersey on social media, describing the agreement as “history in the making.”
The signing, the team claimed in a tweet, “will not only motivate our club to even greater success, but also inspire our league, our nation, and future generations, boys and girls, to be the best version of themselves.”
Ronaldo added, “I feel that this is the ideal time to share my experience in Asia. I am lucky to have won all I set out to earn in European football.
“I am eager to join my new teammates and work with them to advance the Club,” the speaker said.
Al Nassr did not provide any financial information, but he did state that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will join on a term through 2025. According to media estimates, Ronaldo’s contract with the team is worth more than 200 million euros ($214.5 million).
