Shun ‘japa’ syndrome, LUTH CMD advises young doctors
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, has counseled fresh medical graduates from the University of Ilorin to avoid the “japa syndrome” and practice in the nation.
Adeyemo delivered this speech on Monday during the College of Health Sciences’ induction ceremony for 144 medical graduates, which was held in Ilorin.
The speaker, a don, thanked the inductees and said, “Your future is the very bright sun going to shine on everything you do,” in reference to his theme, “Brain Drain in the Health Sector: The Grass is Greener Here Too.”
He emphasized the necessity of the young doctors making their fair share of contributions to the stability and development of the nation.
However, he lamented the low pay and generally unfavorable working circumstances faced by medical doctors in the nation.
He asserts that it is crucial for these young professionals to remain in place so they can make their fair share of contributions to national progress, just like many of their patriotic senior coworkers.
