Super Eagles Can Win The World Cup – CAF President
The Super Eagles might win the World Cup, according to Patrice Motsepe.
Nigeria has six times qualified for the World Cup, with its greatest results coming in 1994, 1998, and 2002 when they advanced to the second round of the international football championship.
The president of the Confederation of African Football is certain that the three-time African champions can win the championship even though they did not qualify for the recently finished edition in Qatar.
“The potential, God-given abilities, and history of Nigerian football give me complete confidence. Nigeria is one of the nations that has the capacity to not only get to the World Cup final or semi-finals, but also to win it, he told Channels Television.
The South African business billionaire claims CAF has many programs for its member countries to make this happen.
“To focus on youth football development, football facilities for boys and girls, amateur football, club-level football development, training coaches and trainers, referee development, and most importantly, to make sure we work with the Nigerian football federation so that they can continue the leadership that they have provided for many years,” Motseppe added.
We are convinced that Nigerian football will continue to rank among the best in the world, not just in Africa, as it has in the past, and it will continue to make us proud. Nigeria is expected to participate in the upcoming World Cup.
After only four African teams had advanced to the quarterfinals of the quadrennial competition prior to Morocco, the billionaire made his remark days later. He claimed that this achievement had opened the floodgates for the continent.
By making it to the semi-finals this month, Morocco opened the door. “An African country will advance at the next World Cup,” the chief predicted.
“An African nation winning the World Cup is the primary goal of CAF (Confederation of African Football), and that target is doable.”
There will be nine or ten African nations competing in the expanded 48-team World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026, up from five in Qatar.
