This is the last leg” — Tinubu asks voters to shun violence during supplementary polls
In the additional elections scheduled for Saturday, Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, advises voters to abstain from using violence.
Five senatorial districts, 31 federal and 58 state assembly constituencies, as well as the states of Adamawa and Kebbi will also hold additional governorship elections.
In a statement on Thursday, Tinubu emphasized that the exercise must be completed peacefully and referred to the planned additional elections as the “last leg of the 2023 general election.”
I urge every Nigerian in the areas where the supplementary elections will be held to abstain from violence and behave in an orderly and peaceful manner, he added.
We must refrain from any actions that will jeopardize the conduct of fair elections or put the nation’s very survival in jeopardy. Only when there is a nation can candidates for political office have seats to run for and the electorate have candidates vying for their support.
“Therefore, the candidates and the electorate in this election have a solemn obligation, just like the INEC personnel. They must make sure that the subsequent elections are conducted not only openly and fairly, but also without hostility, acrimony, or violence that could jeopardize the very fabric of the nation.
I call on all Nigerians to abstain from violence and behave in an orderly and peaceful manner in the places where the supplementary polls will be held, he added.

I must also take use of this opportunity to implore my All Progressives Congress members and the throngs of supporters in the regions designated for the polls to turn out in force and support the party’s candidates.
The former governor of Lagos urged APC supporters to support the party in order to secure the win seen in the previous elections.
He asserted that “this will without a doubt contribute to the efficient operation of government at the federal and state levels for the benefit of our people.”
“On this note, I wish INEC, all voters in the various polling units in these elections, the candidates, and parties involved a very successful supplementary poll.”
