Tinubu speaks on preferred Senate presidential candidate

Kashim Shettima, the vice president-elect, has stated that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not have a favored candidate for the position of Senate president.

At the meeting with newly elected senators held on Monday in Abuja under the auspices of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu, as represented by Shettima, reportedly revealed this.

Abdulmalik Bungudu, a member-elect for Zamfara State’s Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency, made this revelation shortly after the meeting.

Speaking in Hausa, Bungudu said that Tinubu had informed the audience that he had no favorite candidates for any of the key positions in the 10th National Assembly.

He reported Shettima as saying: “He (Tinubu) said he doesn’t have anybody that he desires to have as Senate President or Speaker, but consultations are going to continue to obtain the way out for the party and to also make sure the party wins the upcoming governorship and Houses of Assembly elections,”

According to this newspaper, some media outlets predicted that the Southeast would provide the next Senate president. Orji Uzor Kalu, the current Senate Chief Whip and former governor of Abia State, is said to be the front-runner for the position, Kalu who have been a long time friend of Tinubu.
