According to Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, President Bola Tinubu will commission projects worth N30 billion in December of this year at the National Assembly complex.

While speaking with the chairman and other members of the NASC governing board over the weekend, Akpabio disclosed the commissioning of the projects being worked on inside the National Assembly complex.

The National Assembly building as a whole resembles a construction site at the moment because of ongoing general restoration work and brand-new projects that, when finished, would be commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in December of this year, the speaker claimed.

In addition to the general renovation work, the National Assembly Service Commission’s permanent office complex and a highly appropriate library complex are both being built as new structures.

The 9th National Assembly appropriated N30 billion to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for the execution of the project; however, as of March of this year, only N9 billion had been released. Akpabio did not specify the amount of money that had been released to the contractors handling the project.

The Senate President promised that the September deadline will be met in response to NASC chairman Ahmed Kadi Amshi’s request for fast documentation of legislative assistants of legislators.

The deadline for the documentation of the 469 federal parliamentarians’ assistants has been set for the end of September of this year, Amshi stated in his address to the Senate President and other key officials of the Red Chamber.

He stated that in order for the legislative assistants to receive their due compensation, proper documentation is required.

Please assist us in getting the word out to the current senators—and, by extension, the honorable members of the 10th National Assembly—to transmit the names of their designated legislative assistants to us for the necessary paperwork and the payment of monthly salary.

The NASC chairman stated, “The commission has opened pertinent files for this purpose and fixed September this year as the deadline.”

He continued by saying that under his direction, the commission had promoted 2,775 employees over the previous three years, changed the cadres of around 447 others, and established an ethics code for staff members to follow at all times.
