Why I wanted to plunge into lagoon – Lagos socialite, Farida Sobowale Break silence
Farida Abdulkabir, also known as Farida Sobowale, a well-known socialite in Lagos State, gave an explanation of her decision to jump into a lagoon while standing on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Frustrations, a failed marriage, and a number of other factors, according to Abdulkabir, who also happens to be the owner of House of Phreedah, contributed to her action on Thursday night.
She claimed in a widely shared voice message on social media that her N100 million marriage to Demola Okulaja, another Lagos socialite, fell apart after two months.
In a widely shared video, Abdulkabir was shown being convinced to stop jumping while rescuers reassured her there was no need to kill her. Then, she was hurried away in her car and driven to an undisclosed location.
The entrepreneur and socialite with a fair complexion owns a spa and beauty lounge on Akerele Street in Surulere, Lagos.
Farida’s marriage had failed, and because she could no longer handle her depression, she made the decision to commit suicide. She got out of her black sport utility vehicle on the Third Mainland Bridge and dove into the lagoon.
About two months ago, she wed Demola Okulaja, another socialite from Lagos, in a lavish ceremony.
Abdulkabir said that Okulaja made numerous unsuccessful suicide attempts after leaving the marital residence.
“Friends and family warned me not to enter the marriage,” she remarked. They claimed that the man was merely for my money, but I refused to believe them.
“Love drove me into doing this. He promised to be with me and force me to have children for him.
“I am very sorry that I put my kids in this situation. If I had abandoned them after committing suicide, I would not have been able to forgive myself.
I’ve made amends with my ex-husband. May God grant him a second wife, she added.
Farida and her estranged husband were fighting, posting disturbing family information on social media, insulting one another, and calling each other things that are unprintable.
