Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has announced two significant developments for the state’s educational landscape. Professor Shaykh-Lukman Alade Jimoh has been appointed as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), following a rigorous selection process. Additionally, the Kwara State College of Education (COE) Ilorin is set to be transformed into a full-fledged University of Education.
Professor Shaykh-Lukman brings extensive experience to his new role. Having served as KWASU’s Acting Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor in past years, he boasts a distinguished academic career and proven administrative capabilities. His numerous accolades, including “Best Graduating Student” and various scholarships, showcase his dedication to scholarship. Professor Shaykh-Lukman’s appointment signifies a commitment to strong leadership for KWASU.
The establishment of the University of Education marks a significant step towards expanding access to higher education in Kwara State. By transitioning to the existing College of Education, the state aims for a smoother launch and leverages established resources. Governor AbdulRazaq’s statement emphasizes the ongoing efforts to modernize and revitalize the state’s educational institutions, hinting at potential transformations for the other Colleges of Education.
These developments come shortly after the Governor signed bills creating a Kwara State University Teaching Hospital and the University of Education. This flurry of activity demonstrates a clear vision for bolstering Kwara’s educational infrastructure. The establishment of these new institutions alongside the appointment of a seasoned leader for KWASU indicates a comprehensive strategy for propelling the state’s educational sector forward.
