APC group urges Tinubu to appoint Lalong as SGF

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, operating under the auspices of the North Central APC Forum have once more urged President-elect Bola Tinubu to appoint Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State as Secretary to the Government of the Federation in place of the Director-General of his presidential campaign committee. (SGF).

According to the group, appointing Governor Lalong as the SGF will also guarantee “equity and fairness” in the appointments made by the incoming government.

The Northern Governors Forum chairman, Plateau State, and the election of Tinubu to the presidency, according to the Forum, did a lot for the APC and the North.

After the group’s emergency gathering, the Forum’s chairman, Alhaji Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, made the call in Jos, the state capital of Plateau.

The Forum claims that “Governor Simon Lalong has made significant sacrifices for the APC, the North, the country as a whole, and effective governance in the nation. He is a detribalized leader, an achiever, and a man of peace. His participation in APC presidential events is yet another intriguing aspect of him.

The North Central, with all of its contributions to the democratization and expansion of the nation, has not had that chance for decades, so our forum, along with other organizations and notable figures, actively campaigned for him to be given consideration for the presidency.

When our efforts to get him didn’t bear fruit, we started campaigning for him to be the president’s running mate since the South had finally been decided upon.

Lalong was still loyal to the party and continued to fight for its success despite not being taken into consideration.

Many of us objected to his appointment as Director-General of the APC presidential campaign council because he wasn’t considered for the position of presidential flagbearer or running mate, the Forum claimed. We argued that he should refuse the position.

“Even some raised the matter of the Tinubu and Shettima Muslim-Muslim ticket and made an attempt to dissuade Lalong from supporting the candidacy.

But he managed to calm us all down and never wavered in his belief that the Tinibu-Shettima ticket was also not a terrible one and that both of them are equally capable and reliable.

He reiterated that politics should always be founded on competence rather than consideration of ethnoreligious beliefs.

“And he subsequently labored sincerely and devotedly for the party’s electoral success. Lalong has always supported both national development and party dominance.

“Lalong thus merits the post of SGF for the numerous efforts he has made. Not because he simply deserves it, but because he is qualified and will use his initiative to help the administration advance their goals and advance the country.

He urged members of other parties and all candidates who ran unsuccessfully for various positions to work with those who won. He emphasized that because every candidate’s goal is to serve the people, not themselves, those who win should be given the support they need to carry out their mandate.
