Those who attribute Peter Obi’s performance in the recently concluded presidential race to religion or ethnicity are being “ignorant and mischievous,” according to Kenneth Okonkwo of the Labour Party, LP.

Veteran Nollywood performer Okonkwo insisted that no politician in the annals of the nation who was affiliated with a little-known political party received the support and votes that Obi did.

His statement, which he shared on Tuesday via his Twitter account, comes in the wake of a discussion between his principal and Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church that was recorded and then leaked.

According to the audio exchange Obi asked Oyedepo for assistance in reaching out to his supporters and referred to the race as a “religious war.”

To taint Obi’s records, some individuals, according to Okonkwo, were “trumping up useless and baseless allegations.”

The Nollywood star also claimed that all tribes and faiths had supported Obi in the election on February 25 based on evidence.

Anyone who attributes Obi’s phenomenal success in the 2023 presidential race to ethnic or religious implications is misinformed and malicious, he claimed in his essay. No politician in Nigerian history who ran for president for the first time under a comparatively unknown political party against two well-established major parties received the number of votes and support that Obi did. His performance in the Federal Capital Territory and Lagos, which are the most diverse regions of Nigeria, demonstrates that Hausas, Yoruba, Igbo, all tribes, Muslims, Christians, and adherents of every other faith supported him.

“After learning of his persuasive petition to reclaim his mandate, which INEC and the defunct APC governing party had openly stolen, they are making absurd and unfounded accusations to tarnish his reputation. In a multireligious country like Nigeria, a party that supported a sick old drug lord and religious bigot who ran on the same platform should be ashamed to even talk in public. By God’s grace, they will soon be removed from Nigeria’s ruling cadre because of the low they have brought Nigeria to.
