Betta Edu: CCB summons Interior Minister over alleged N483m contract fraud

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the minister of interior, has allegedly been summoned by the Code of Conduct Bureau about a purported N483 million contract fraud at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

This event occurs as the minister’s company, New Planet Projects, benefited from a consulting agreement under Betta Edu’s leadership with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation prior to her suspension.

On the other hand, Tunji-Ojo announced his resignation as the company’s director on a different forum. However, the public’s ongoing interest in the issue has sparked calls for his investigation.

As a result, Tunji-Ojo received a letter from the CCB inviting him to appear on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the CCB Headquarters, Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja, as part of an investigation.

On behalf of CCB Chairman Murtala Aliyu, Gwimi S.P., Director of Investigation and Monitoring, signed the letter.

“The Bureau is looking into a possible violation of the Public Officers Code of Conduct where your name was mentioned a lot. As a result, you are invited to an interview that is set for the following time:

Date: January 16, 2024, a Tuesday. Time: prompt at 11:00 a.m. Location: Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase I, Annex III, Fifth Floor, CCB Headquarters, Abuja

This invitation is being sent out in accordance with the Bureau’s authority and jurisdiction as stated in the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, as amended, Third Schedule, Part I, Paragraph 3(e). Kindly follow appropriate guidance,” the letter says.

A week ago, Betta Edu was suspended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu due to allegations of N585 million corruption.
