Buhari returns from Addis Ababa after AU Summit
After taking part in the 36th summit of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, President Muhammadu Buhari has since traveled back to Abuja.
During the three-day trip, Buhari, who left the country on Thursday afternoon, took part in a few activities, including high-level discussions on peace and security, climate change, and the political atmosphere in some West African nations.
The President attended an Extraordinary Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which was held alongside the main AU Summit and had as its theme “Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Implementation.”
He participated at the second Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Sahel Region Climate Commission (SRCC), which was held concurrently with the AU Summit and where Nigeria was chosen to host the Secretariat of the Sahel Climate Fund.
Buhari presented Nigeria’s positions on important continental issues during some of the 36th AU Summit meetings. He urged member states of the Union to ratify the (AfCFTA) Agreement for the development of the continent’s economy and urged them to strengthen early warning systems to quell conflicts.
For the final of the party’s presidential campaigns, the President is anticipated to travel to Lagos on Tuesday with other APC officials, including the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
