Emefiele should be arrested by DSS upon arrival in Nigeria if…’ – Falana

Femi Falana, a human rights attorney and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has encouraged the Department of State Securities (DSS) to proceed and detain Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), upon his arrival in Nigeria if the service has specific evidence against him.

Falana said the DSS does not require a court warrant to arrest the CBN Governor if they have a case against him and that Emefiele is not among those who are constitutionally allowed to enjoy immunity.

Falana announced this on Sunday night while appearing on the Channels Television program Sunday Politics.

After the secret police went to the Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice Maryam Hassan turned down the DSS’s request for an order to arrest Emefiele for alleged financing of terrorism and economic crimes against national security.

The judgment therefore prohibited the DSS from holding, inviting, or arresting Emefiele, describing the DSS’s accusations of terrorism against the CBN governor as vengeful, heartless, tyrannical, null, and of no force.

Falana stated that Emefiele has not come back to the nation as a result of the Department of State Services accusing him of financing terrorism (DSS).

I can announce without fear of contradiction that Mr. Godwin Emefiele is not in Nigeria; he hasn’t come back because the state security agencies have listed him as wanted.
The DSS’s accusations against Emefiele, according to Falana, are embarrassing and can only occur in a country like a banana republic when the governor of the central bank is charged with a serious crime like funding terrorism.

“Has the administration considered the significant consequence of the effect of a wanted central bank governor on the economy?” the speaker said. I am utterly shocked that the president of the nation has not stepped in to either direct the state security to stop or to tell Mr. Emefiele to leave the nation or face termination.
