“FG to adopt ‘cutting-edge’ technologies in the southeast to reduce insecurity”- Uzodimma

Governor of Imo, Hope Uzodimma reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has given the go-ahead for the use of ‘cutting-edge’ technologies to combat insecurity in the south-east.

This was said by him on Tuesday following a meeting with Buhari at the presidential palace in Abuja, when he was addressing the media.

“I also pleaded with him to help us further deploy certain technology that we have planned, so we can conduct a sophisticated form of security control in the south-east. Additionally, he has approved of that,” he stated.

“We’re also about to receive certain sophisticated technologies and surveillance gear that will help us manage security and fight crime with minimal to no environmental collateral damage.

My people have experienced many things. If you go to the southeast, take Imo state as an example. With the President’s approval, the Imo government is now able to work with the Nigerian Navy to dredge the Oguta River from the Orashi River to the sea, opening up that maritime route.

If there is a naval base, we will now supervise and regulate pipeline theft, theft of crude oil, and all other types of criminal activity that have long plagued that region. And since the naval installation was built, the crime rate has significantly decreased.

Those who oppose me in my state do not claim that our efforts are ineffective. They don’t claim that we aren’t improving the area. They do not charge us with corruption. All they are saying is that a government is to blame for the security because they are contriving, encouraging insecurity out of desperation.

The federal government manages and oversees the crucial security measures where I am, at the subnational level. Because Imo state cannot be singled out, I cannot be held responsible for my insecurity. The 36 members of the federation, including the FCT, are concerned with national security.

So, I believe we did really well. And I’m glad to say that, by God’s help, we’ll have a situation in which we can all rejoice and be content as soon as we’re able to eliminate the security.”
