Youths to Obasanjo: You can’t tell us who to vote in 2023

The endorsement of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, by the former president Olusegun Obasanjo has been criticized by Nigerian youths who descended in large numbers on Abeokuta, Ogun State for a National Summit as being personal and asserting that he cannot tell them who to vote for in the upcoming general election.

Seyi Bamigbade, National Director General of the APC Professionals Council, stated at the National Youth Summit that the previous president cannot play god because Nigeria’s democracy has advanced past the point when one person decides who becomes the leader.

Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, would win by a landslide next month, according to Tinubu, who also claimed that Obasanjo’s support for Obi will not have an impact on the margin of that victory.

Bamigbade charged the former with venting his resentment over his failure to influence the current administration.

What counts most, in Bamigbade’s opinion, is acceptance among the Nigerian people, which Asiwaju Bola Tinubu enjoys among the country’s youth, as is evident from the enormous crowds that swarm the party’s rallies across the states.

You shouldn’t let the antics of a former president who is only exercising his political rights deter you as young people. You are aware of the candidate who, ever since he served as governor of Lagos, has prioritized the welfare and development of children and youth. This candidate is in whose hands your future is better protected and secured.

Avoid becoming sidetracked by it, don’t be fooled by the attitude that is far from that of a statesman, and keep your focus on taking a calculated step toward safeguarding your future.

Earlier, the National President of Concerned Youths Electoral Credibility, CYEC, Engr. Paul Chinonso, declared that they will support APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu in the upcoming presidential election because “the action of the former president falls short of a statesman.”

Chinonso claimed that former president Obasanjo “does not have the right to select for Nigerians the direction to vote in electing their leader, ” accusing the man of preside over the waste and corruption that plagued the nation while he was in office.

He claimed that under the guise of privatization, Obasanjo and his vice president at the time, Atiku Abubakar, sold all of the nation’s assets in a dubious and dishonest manner.
