Keyamo and Melaye expose three holes in Obasanjo’s letter of endorsement

Politicians and experts have continued to respond to the former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate.

Obasanjo urged Nigerians, especially the youth, in an open letter on Sunday, January 1, to reclaim their nation and prevent the out-of-date politicians from holding power in the 2023 election, according to The Nation.

Festus Keyamo, a spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign committee, asserted the former president’s right to support the presidential candidate of his choosing on Monday, January 2.

However, Obasanjo did not think that Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, deserved to be Nigeria’s president, according to Keyamo, a minister of state for labor and employment.
Despite disparaging Bola Tinubu of the APC in the letter, Keyamo thinks Obasanjo’s support for the APC presidential candidate wouldn’t matter.

Dino Melaye, the designated spokesman for the PDP presidential campaign organization, also responded to the letter.

Melaye, a former senator, also called attention to a flaw in Obasanjo’s letter of support, criticizing the former president’s use of his age as justification.

According to the PDP stalwart, if the United States (U.S.) could elect Joe Biden, who is 70 years old, then age should not be a barrier to democracy.
