Man United thrashed 7-0 by Liverpool, suffer worst defeat in 92 years

In their English Premier League (EPL) match at Anfield on Sunday, Liverpool’s strikers thrashed Manchester United 7-0 with a scorching second half performance.

The fierce rivals put on an entertaining show, but it was Liverpool that came out on top thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Cody Gapko, and Darwin Nunez, who all scored hat tricks. Roberto Firmino then added a seventh goal to hand Manchester United, who had just won the Carabao Cup the previous weekend, a humiliating loss.

Man United’s Casemiro had a goal disallowed for offside, which inspired Liverpool. Gapko’s looping goal into the corner on the verge of halftime gave the Reds the lead after latching onto Andy Robertson’s through play.

The second half started off for Jurgen Klopp’s team the same way the first did, with a goal from the hot-shot Uruguayan striker Nunez, who finished after the hosts pounced on a botched back pass by Man United’s defense.

On the 50th minute, Gapko scored a skillful, clipped goal to put an end to a counterattack started by Mohamed Salah and put the game beyond United’s reach. After 66 minutes, the Egyptian scored his 11th goal against Manchester United with a one-time shot, and Nunez added the final touch with a header 10 minutes later.

Salah and Firmino scored more goals to seal the onslaught.

The outcome is Man United’s lowest in all competitions since losing to Wolves in 1931 by a score similar to this one.

The painful loss marks the Red Devils’ first setback in 12 games overall and their first in five EPL contests.

With 42 points from 25 games and an improved record, Liverpool climbs up to fifth place in the English Premier League standings, just three points behind fourth place.

Man United, who are the local rivals of Man City, are still in third place with 49 points.

In other news, Alex Iwobi played 89 minutes in a 2-2 tie between Everton and Nottingham Forest, who are still without Taiwo Awoniyi due to injury.
