N400 billion Scam: EFCC pursues Bindow as former governor finally switches to PDP from APC
Sen. Muhammad Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, the troubled former governor of Adamawa State, is reportedly being pursued by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) after he eventually defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP.
The disgraced former governor narrowly avoided being arrested, according to reliable sources, when the EFCC team swooped on his Yola home but missed him because he had gone to register for the PDP at his ward Kolere in Mubi North Local Government Area, where he actually resides despite being from Maiha LGA of the State.
According to sources, former governor Bindow left the APC because of the interpersonal conflict that engulfed the state chapter of the party and caused Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed to beat him.
Bindow is a creation of Admiral Murtala Nyako, who was the former Naval Chief who holstered him on the populace. However, as soon as Bindow was elected governor, he began a war with his patron, which ultimately resulted in his defeat as his boss Nyako pulled him down.
Between 2015 to 2019, when he was defeated by governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the People’s Democratic Party, he was elected as governor of Adamawa State on the APC platform (PDP).
The former governor’s quest to secure the party’s 2022 gubernatorial ticket hit a brick wall when Sen. Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, the only female candidate, easily defeated him and four other candidates.
According to observers, the former governor’s resignation letter was just delivered to his Kolere ward, which effectively ended his affiliation with the party.
It was discovered that despite being a senator and the recently-past governor of Adamawa State, Bindow has been harboring major complaints against the party over the poor treatment he has received.
He allegedly launched a clandestine behind-the-scenes strategy after losing the party’s gubernatorial primary, which culminated in a reconciliation with the state’s ruling party. His grievances reportedly reached a boiling point at that point.
Bindow ultimately made his decision to leave the party known in a letter to the leader of the APC Kolere ward in the Adamawa State’s Mubi North local government.
