Ndume urges IGP to withdraw orderlies of Senators, Reps
The Inspector General of Police has been urged to remove orderlies from National Assembly members and other politicians across the nation by Senate Chief Whip Ali Ndume.
Ndume stated as much during a Wednesday interview on Politics Today on Channels Television.
I agree that they ought to remove every police officer.
“A senator will be escorting ten police officers, seven members of the House of Representatives, and everyone else.” That is only applicable to mobile people. Some even provide security for their spouses, while others do the same for their kids. “I oppose that,” he declared.
Given that Nigeria only has roughly 300,000 police officers to patrol the nation, the senator from Borno South Senatorial District suggested that orderlies for Very Important Personalities should be withdrawn to protect the people.
“Let’s have 500,000 soldiers and about 2 million police,” he declared.
In order to combat the threat of banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency, he pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to grant security forces unrestricted resources and weaponry.
He said the President need to give the police the authority to recruit two million men, and the military, half a million.
But if state police are included in the constitutional amendment process, he said, he will not vote for them because he believes governors will abuse them.
