Osimhen scores his league-leading 21st goal as Napoli keep winning in March

The Italian champions-elect Napoli thrashed Torino 4-0 and increased their lead over second-placed Torino to a whopping 21 points. Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were once again the heroes for Napoli.

Osimhen, a striker from Nigeria, increased his league-leading goal total to 21 with two spectacular headers in each half, sandwiched by Kvaratskhelia’s penalty in the 35th minute.

In the 68th minute, Tanguy Ndombele’s first Serie A goal was assisted by Kvaratskhelia after outstanding hold-up work from Osimhen as Napoli came closer to winning its first league championship since 1990 in front of a raucous Turin crowd.

It was their first away game following the lifting of a two-month travel ban imposed in the wake of an altercation with Roma supporters on a highway in January.

And they were present to witness their team’s typically commanding performance. If Simone Inzaghi’s inconsistent team defeats Juventus in Sunday’s crucial match, Napoli will at worst be 18 points ahead of Inter Milan with 11 games remaining.

Yet, Napoli will soon secure a historic title victory after a season of stunning football that has Osimhen sure they can also capture the Champions League.

To go to the final, they would need to defeat AC Milan in an Italian derby in the quarterfinals and possibly Inter in the last four, but it would be difficult to bet against a squad that appears to have struck lightning in a bottle.

After Kvaratskhelia scored his 14th goal of the year, Torino gave little resistance and fell to 11th place, level on points with Bologna and ninth-place Fiorentina, who defeated Lecce 1-0 in their seventh straight game across all competitions.
