Rishi Sunak, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, has promised to give Ukraine tanks and artillery systems in response to Russia’s continued missile strikes on Ukrainian cities.

In a phone chat with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday, Sunak promised to provide Challenger 2 tanks and other artillery systems, according to a statement from the British leader’s Downing Street office.

The quantity and timing of the tank deliveries to Ukraine were not specified in the announcement.

According to a transcript of a phone call with Zelenskyy, Sunak claimed the tanks were evidence of the UK’s “ambition to expand our help to Ukraine.”

Zelenskyy tweeted his appreciation for the military’s assistance, stating that “the choices will not only make us stronger on the battlefield, but will also convey the proper message to other partners.”

In response to the UK’s vow, Russia expressed concern that it would merely “intensify” the crisis.

The Russian embassy in the UK stated that sending tanks into the conflict area will not stop the hostilities but rather increase them and cause more losses, notably among civilians.
