Gunmen ambushed a US Embassy vehicle in Nigeria on Tuesday, killing four persons, but the White House has confirmed that no Americans were among the casualties.

Two employees of the US consulate and two police officers were among the deceased.

The Amiyi/Eke Ochuche communities in Anambra state’s Ogbaru Local Government Area were the scene of the attack.

“Since no US citizens were involved, no US citizens were injured.

John Kirby, a member of the US National Security Council, said: “We are aware of some casualties, possibly even some killed.”

DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra Police Command’s spokesperson, also disclosed that the attackers “made away with two police operatives and a driver of the second vehicle in the convoy.”

Ikenga confirmed that joint security forces “have embarked on a rescue and recovery operation in the area.”
