2nd Niger Bridge May Close After January 15 – FRSC

The temporary opening of the second Niger Bridge, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps, is intended to relieve traffic congestion on the old Niger Bridge during the busy holiday season.

When asked about the traffic scenario over the holiday season by our correspondent in his office in Awka, CC Adeoye Irelewuyi, Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra State, said the corps had planned deployments and logistics in anticipation of an increase in traffic volume.

When compared to previous years, Irelewuyi noted that all the critical areas manned by the corps’s operatives had been very clear and free of traffic congestion. He also said that the opening of the 2nd Niger Bridge had made a significant positive difference in the traffic situation in the state of Anambra.

The second Niger Bridge will open for traffic from the west into the east between December 15, 2022, and January 1, 2023, according to him. The period from January 2 to January 15, 2023, will be for automobiles to cross from the East to the West.

The head of the Anambra FRSC warned that accidents involving traffic were anticipated in areas like Amansea Awka along the old Enugu route, at Immigration Junction Awka, Oye-Agu junction Abagana including the Bridge Head Onitsha, and throughout the entire city. However, he said that the Command had sent out roughly 1000 soldiers to stop traffic hazards throughout the holiday season.

Irelewuyi stated that 420 special marshals and 460 normal marshals, as well as cars and toll trucks on standby at the head bridge Onitsha, were sent to clear the route of all impediments. He claimed that in order to guarantee the free flow of traffic, FRSC worked with other traffic agencies, security organizations, and the Delta State Government.

He claimed that the second Niger Bridge had been temporarily opened to relieve traffic congestion and that after January 15th, drivers could resume using the first Niger Bridge. He claimed that because of the expected increase in traffic, the Honourable Minister had temporarily opened the second Niger Bridge in order to relieve pressure on the first bridge.

The Sector Commander insisted that this year, the corps will step up enforcement operations, particularly in regions where serious offenses that cause crashes occur. that the corps will step up its efforts to enforce traffic laws against speeding, using old tires, overloading, and drunk driving.
