Gunmen kill INEC official, injure corps members in Delta

Following a shooting in Delta state, a member of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was killed.
Monday Udoh- At a Monday media briefing, Tom, the state’s resident electoral commissioner (REC) for INEC, verified the event.
Speaking in Asaba, the capital of Delta, Udoh-Tom said that the INEC official was shot on Saturday while traveling by bus to deliver election results to the Ukwani LGA of the state.
The REC said that there had been an attack in the Ukwani LGA where one of its employees had been shot while carrying the election results after the vote.
The assailants opened fire on their bus, tragically killing the INEC official while injuring others.
Members of the National Youth Service Corps were identified as the other injured ad hoc personnel (NYSC).
The corps members are now receiving medical care, but we are preparing a plan to transfer them to a hospital in Asaba.
During the polls on Saturday, there were reported attacks in some areas of Delta state.
TheCable had also claimed that on Saturday, “thugs” attacked Bolanle Olabimtan, its judiciary correspondent who had been sent to Delta to cover the elections.
