Illegal use of NYSC uniform attracts imprisonment – Director
The National Youth Service Corps issued a public warning on Monday against the usage of its uniform without permission, describing it as unlawful.
Eddy Megwa, the NYSC Director of Communications and Public Affairs, issued a statement with the warning in it, headlined “Unauthorized usage of NYSC uniform.”
The organization reiterated that it will remain impartial in the current political situation and electioneering, but added that it was “disturbed by the transmission of various content on social media for entertainment and political objectives where the NYSC uniform was being utilized without consent.”
The National Youth Service Corps management was obligated to warn the public about the risks of using the NYSC uniform, logo, song lyrics, literature, and other intellectual property without permission, according to the statement.
“These uncontrolled materials continue to paint the NYSC in a negative light while the NYSC remains apolitical and impartial in the ongoing political and electioneering process.
To emphasize, section 14 of the NYSC Act clearly states that anyone who wears the uniform or any part of the uniform of the service corps while not serving in the service corps or being duly authorized to do so is guilty of an offense and subject to a fine of N1,000.00 or to imprisonment for a term of six months or to both such fine and imprisonment.
“From this point forward, the management of the scheme will not hesitate to file a lawsuit against any person or organization that disobeys the rules of the NYSC Act regarding the wearing of the NYSC uniform. The entire public is urged to pay attention.
