Interim government, mischievous, unconstitutional — Nigerian Army

The demand for an interim government made by some citizens of the nation has been deemed unfortunate and unconstitutional by the Defense Headquarters.

At the biweekly briefing on military activities taking place across the nation on Thursday in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media activities, Maj.-Gen. Musa Danmadami, addressed the media.

Danmadami asserted that those advocating for an interim national government were merely playing pranks and that the law did not call for such a body.

“It is unfortunate about the problem of the interim government. A presidential candidate has been named by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which was tasked with conducting the poll.

“It is not our place to comment on that subject, but I am aware that the Presidency has called for an interim national government on numerous occasions.

So, in my opinion, everyone was merely attempting to be cheeky. We are all aware that it is illegal.

“The constitution does not establish a national interim government. The Presidency has been emphasizing this issue, and that is where we stand.

Anything unconstitutional, in his opinion, is not relevant because it is against the law.

Danmadami claimed that Operation Safe Conduct, which was carried out to assist the police and INEC and ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, was successful.

In two states where elections were deemed inconclusive, he said, the military was also prepared to offer comparable assistance for the conduct of the remaining elections.

He claims that the military is still working around the clock to maintain the nation’s security and tranquility.

“During the brief, we informed you of the number of abducted individuals as well as the military’s efforts to guarantee their safe return.

So, he continued, “We will keep fulfilling our obligation to the best of our ability while appealing for the support of the civil populace.”
